About

Blue Marble Refill is Carmarthen's only refill shop.

We have a physical shop at 45 King Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1BH. Open six days a week, Monday-Saturday.

Why are you called 'Blue Marble'?

Blue Marble was the name given to the first ever photograph taken of our collective home, planet Earth, in its entirety in 1972.

The hope, with our small business, is to help those that step inside the shop to:

  • shift the perspective (to think about the planet as a whole)
  • to spark the need to care for our collective home

Why should we actively be avoiding single-use plastic?

Ironically, it is said that the invention of plastics was born from a need to move away from materials such as horn and shell, as these animals were facing extinction.

Fast forward to 2050, and it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

Globally, we produce an estimated 400 million metric tonnes of plastic per year. As these plastics break up into smaller and smaller pieces, they find their way into every part of our lives. Did you know that microplastics are being found in human blood, breastmilk and brain tissue samples? It's everywhere and we want to be part of the network of zero waste shops that are dedicated to being part of the solution.

When did you open?

We opened our doors in January 2023 and exist to offer mid & West Wales a plastic-free shopping experience.

In 2022, Carmarthen lost its previous refill shop (The Green Scoop) and we felt that it was vital that we kept this way of shopping accessible to the local community.

Anything else I should know?

We are 100% plant-based. This means that all of our products are derived from plants (not animals) and we do not support any product that tests on animals.

We are working behind the scenes to bring a local bike delivery service to Carmarthen town.

Blue Marble Refill is committed to reduce waste of any kind not just plastic - food, textile, electrical. Want to collaborate? E-mail us at hello@bluemarblerefill.wales
